Montreux and Chillon Castle
A trip from Geneva to Montreux is one of the most beautiful experiences on Lake Geneva. Along the lakeside road or comfortably by train, the journey leads through the famous Lavaux wine region and offers stunning views of the lake and the Alps time and again. After about an hour, you reach Montreux, Switzerland's elegant Riviera city.
Montreux is known for its mild climate, its palm-lined lake promenade, and its unique blend of nature, culture, and way of life. A stroll along the lakefront takes you past artfully arranged gardens, sculptures, and cosy cafés. The town is also closely linked to music history and is world-renowned for its prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival Known. The promenade with the statue of is particularly popular Freddie Mercury, which commemorates the musician's close connection to the city.
Just a few kilometres south of Montreux lies the impressive Chillon Castle, one of Switzerland's most visited historical monuments. The medieval water castle rises from a small rocky island right on the shore of Lake Geneva and looks like something out of a fairy tale. Its history dates back over 1,000 years, and its mighty walls, towers and courtyards tell of knights, dukes and trade routes of past centuries.
During a tour, visitors can explore magnificently preserved halls, historical living quarters, chapels, and the famous vaulted cellars. The castle's location is particularly fascinating, offering spectacular photographic opportunities with the lake and surrounding mountains. The romantic atmosphere has already inspired numerous artists and writers, including Lord Byron, which made the castle world-famous through his poem „The Prisoner of Chillon“.

Practical Notes
During the walk along Lake Geneva, we will be walking on normal pavements. During the castle visit, we will be walking on uneven cobblestones and will go up and down some stairs. Most of the excursion, apart from the journey and partly in the castle, will take place outdoors.
